Boating Roundtable: Boater Education with the Water Sports Foundation

Whether you’re a new boater or a seasoned vet, boater education is the key to boating safely and learning essential boating skills.

The Boating Roundtable Series brings you behind the scenes with your favorite marine products, boat manufacturers, and more. Join the editors of Boating as they invite special guests for rousing discussions about topics important to boaters. Subscribe to never miss an episode!

In this installment of Boating Roundtable, the editors of Boating magazine sit down with Jim Emmons and Jeff Moag from the Water Sports Foundation to discuss the courses all boaters have easy access to, the insurance discounts they offer and more.

According to the United States Coast Guard’s 2020 Recreational Boating Statistics, “Where instruction was known, 77% of deaths occurred on boats where the operator did not receive boating safety instruction. Only 12% percent of deaths occurred on vessels where the operator was known to have received a nationally-approved boating safety education certificate.”
